Frequently Asked Questions

  • Physical therapy is a treatment approach that helps individuals improve their movement, relieve pain, and recover from injuries or surgeries. It involves targeted exercises, hands-on techniques, and education to improve strength, flexibility, and overall function.

  • On your first visit, your physical therapist will conduct a comprehensive assessment to understand your condition, history, and goals. This may include reviewing your medical history, performing physical tests, and discussing any pain or limitations. Based on this, your therapist will create a personalized treatment plan.

  • Most sessions last between 30 to 60 minutes, depending on your condition and the treatment plan. The frequency and duration will vary based on your specific needs

  • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows you to move freely. If you’re receiving treatment for a specific area (like your knee or shoulder), be sure to wear clothing that provides easy access to that area.

  • The number of sessions varies based on your injury, goals, and progress. Some patients may need only a few visits, while others may require longer treatment. Your therapist will work with you to set realistic goals and timelines.

  • While some exercises or techniques may cause temporary discomfort, physical therapy should not be excessively painful. It’s normal to feel a little soreness after a session, especially when trying new movements or exercises. Your therapist will always work with you to ensure your comfort during treatment.

  • New Hampshire is a direct access state for physical therapy, meaning that you do not need a referral from a physician to see a physical therapist.

Even though you don’t need a referral, some insurance plans may still require a referral for reimbursement. It's a good idea to check with your insurance provider to see if they have any specific requirements

  • At the moment, Pacifica Physio is currently only credentialed with Medicare Part B, Humana Medicare Advantage and Anthem BlueCross BlueShield.

  • Physical therapy helps address the root causes of pain, improve movement patterns, and reduce inflammation. Through targeted exercises, manual therapy, and education, you’ll learn strategies to manage pain and prevent it from returning.

  • Yes! In most cases, continuing with modified exercises can be beneficial, but it's important to consult with your therapist. Your PT will recommend exercises that complement your therapy and avoid activities that might hinder recovery.

  • You should begin to notice improvements in your pain levels, strength, flexibility, and overall function over time. Your therapist will regularly assess your progress and adjust your treatment plan as needed to ensure you’re on the right track.
